Guitarist, singer and songwriter Rasmus Rankenberg Madsen and
drummer Frederik Nielsen started Nicotine Nerves in their small hometown
of Vejen in 2016 from a shared love of cigarettes, tube amps,
tape recorders and grunge music. Starting with a dogma of removing
possibilities in order to let creativity flourish, the duo format revealed
itself as optimal for the two musicians and the songwriting quickly
took off.
In 2017, the band released their self titled debut EP and played a string
of shows where the duo’s energy, catchy songwriting and updated take
on grunge and garage rock turned out to be a particularly explosive
molotow cocktail. Then in 2018, the band entered the studio to record
their debut album with producer Andreas Linnemann but during the
recordings, Frederik chose to leave the band. Enter new drummer
Lauge Kjærulf, who contributed to two songs on the new album.
Now, we finally got Nicotine Nerves’ debut album ‘1995’ which is set
for a Feb 22nd 2019 release through Middle Ear Recordings. The title
is the year when Rasmus and the former drummer were born - during
the time, where “punk broke” in the mainstream. Since then, the rock
of the 90’s became an essential part of Nicotine Nerves’ sound, and
the band’s goal with ‘1995’ was “to make something old”, as they put
it themselves. The 80’s and 90’s aesthetics is thus dominant in both
the music as in the artwork that cultivates the look of those old VHS
